Learn - 4 (Animals and Humans drink water from same pond)

In Pakistan over 40% of population has no access to safe drinking water. The population who have access to water is also dealing with challenge of poor quality of drinking water with bacterial contamination, arsenic, flouride and nitrate. In adequate and non sustaianblity of water provision has impact on the health and hygiene of the population and thus restults in health diseases in Pakistan. It has been estimated in Pakistan that the water, sanitation related disearses cost Pakistan economy about Rs. 112 billion per year, Over 300 milllion a day in terms of health cost and lost earnings. Besides this non availablity of drinking water facilities at schools is one of the contributing factors for low enrollemnt and high drop out of children from schools specially in rural areas.

In one of my project area, District Tharparkar (deserted), People are suffering from water shortage and there are few places where animals and humans have same open pond/area to drink the water. It is a extreme human violation that animals and humans where animals have waste also drink the same water in same pond. On my enquiry in the remote rural area, I came to know that in some water wells, the local population has installed/fixed animals from morning to evening to walk in circle in order to run the pump/take/fetch the water from the extreme end of long wells.

In these deserted areas government is exploring opportunity for cost effective and appropriate technological options based on local conditions for water availablity and sustainablity.

This is a problem which sadly effects many area's around the world. form some of the research done here at Evoke, we found 2 very interesting solutions to the problem.
1/ The first is the Deka Water Purification System. It can purify any sort of water and it's portable with no filter that needs to be changed. It should soon cost 2000$ if there will be demand for it.

2/ The Life Saver Bottle.an extremely portable low cost, filter based water purification system. it's actually a bottle that you pump a few times and it cleans the water entirely. for people who need to carry it with them or a crisis zone, it's perfect and it costs less than 100$

Hope this information helps you.

+1LI. Thanks for this information. I have posted a video titled Water for Life on a product that can be used to purify water from wells, rivers, dams making it safe to drink. It is simple to use and inexpensive and may be an option for District Tharparkar.

Nearly all water sources are shared with other animal species, though. This is normal. Of course, if there isn't enough water to dilute the waste to the point where it is drinkable, then filters are definitely a good idea. Though the sun is also very good at disinfecting water, too. And while I understand that some humans don't realize that they are essentially the same as other species, and thus might be afraid of those who seem different, we are all Earthlings, sharing the same world, and perhaps it might be valuable to help these people feel comfortable sharing their resources with their neighbors who happen to be more furry, feathered, or scaly. :-)

A large number of orgs are using biosand filters. I am trying to get a post up about it but right now I am buried. http://bushproof.biosandfilter.org/

Agent Soomro Good sharing of local insight. Sad, this exists in the world. Good for Agent Licht to list 2 examples of solutions.

Well done to both.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
