Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I want to share a heartbreaking tale..

The river that runs through my hometown, is gradually becoming one of the most polluted rivers in the entire world...

.
This is the water I drink.

I had no idea that this happening inside my own city. I was shocked at my own ignorance....

The more I learnt about the situation, the more horrified I felt.

"The Imperial Gazetteer of India, 1909 mentions, the waters of Yamuna distinguishable as "clear blue" as compared to silt-ridden yellow of the Ganges. However, due to high density population growth, rapid industrialization, today Yamuna is one of the most polluted rivers in the world, especially around New Delhi, the capital of India, which dumps about 58% of its waste into the river."

"Millions of Indians still rely on these murky, sewage-filled waters for washing, waste disposal and drinking water."

"Officials say factories are ignoring regulations and dumping untreated sewage and industrial pollution, turning toxic the river that gives the capital much of its drinking water. The corruption and bureaucracy that derails many public initiatives in India have hampered previous cleanups."

Methane Gas is bubbling from the black gutter-like water, which smells horrible.

All is not yet lost.

Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has announced in New Delhi a seven-month long campaign to clean the Yamuna river and have a clean and green Delhi before the Commonwealth Games. The campaign -- 'My Yamuna, My Dilli' - was launched by the spiritual guru at Purana Qila on Tuesday evening.'The responsibility for cleaning up the Yamuna lies with us - the people she nurtures,' Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said.

This is our last hope for saving the river.

I feel sick at heart. For my ACT4, I wish to be a part of this campaign. This will be a huge undertaking for me.I dont have money, transport, or even my parents support for this. I am on my own.

The important entrance exams I have to give, end in April 25, after which, I will have tons of free time, which I will devote to evoke, and activities such as this(If I have not disappeared by then, like few people have)

My fellow evoke agents, wish me luck. If all goes well, I'll be returning with pictures.

'Ask nothing, want nothing in return. Give what you have to give: it will come back to you, but do not think of that now, it will come back multiplied by thousand fold: but the attention must not be on that. Yet the power to give, give and there it ends. Ask, therefore, nothing in return: but the more you give, the more will come to you' - Swami Vivekananda

Thank you for reading.

I wish I could double or triple vote this- this is a real issue, and one in which a lot of the clean water initiatives are somewhat lacking. How do we fix what was previously a living river of clean water when it is so very fouled?

I'm looking into some water cleaning bacteria- if I find something useful for this project, I'll try to pass it on.

Hey Shane,
Thank you so much for going through my post, and for sharing the links.

I was reading the articles about bacteria, they seem to be still in research. On the long run, I believe bacteria will be a HUGE help in cleaning rivers. Like Probiotic bacteria can detoxify the body, several strains may be out there, which can detoxify a part of a river...

We can only wait for the research to be completed, and implemented, on a large scale, while we do our best, scrounging the banks for toxic waste...

Found this article on the metal pollutions in the river.

I've sent off some letters to people involved in some of the bacteria projects to see if there are any new advances, commercial forms, etc. to involve in this.

Great that people are being active to clean it, great that you know about it and can help. Work hard for your exams too.
Best wishes with both.

Talked with Peter Weber- unfortunately, research into the bacteria has ceased and proven impractical, specifically in a case like this. Furthermore, he says there are few practical techniques for filtering a river.

Sorry I didn't have something more encouraging to write.

Hey Samiran Roy,
You`re probably in the middle of entrance exams, so I wanted to send some luck your way and applaud you for your awareness and action to clean the Yamuna. Looking forward to pictures!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
