Learn 5 - A whuffie economy for social networks

Have you ever wondered whether you could take care of your based needs just on yo reputation alone?

Welcome to the Wuffie bank.

what is wuffie - well if we look to Wikipedia - "Whuffie is the ephemeral, reputation-based currency of Cory Doctorow's science fiction novel, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom. This book describes a post-scarcity economy: All the necessities (and most of the luxuries) of life are free for the taking. A person's current Whuffie is instantly viewable to anyone, as everybody has a brain-implant giving them an interface with the Net.The term has since seen some adoption as a synonym for social capital, including its use in the title of the Tara Hunt book The Whuffie Factor."

Ok, cool factor very high and we all know science fiction is really inspiration fiction for this century. So it should come as no suprise that some entreprising people ould create a Wuffie economy and a Wuffie bank.

"In a world where reputation is wealth, only those who do good and well unto others are the richest". That's the social change we want to achieve through the use of a new kind of currency as the whuffie. (http://thewhuffiebank.org/)

so how is the Whuffie calculated-

"Our work consists on improving the calculation of whuffie to properly represent a value for reputation. The Whuffie Bank won't take into consideration popularity or influence, although these variables may help to increase the whuffie of a person. The algorithm currently considers these aspects:

Detects Public Endorsements — Each time a message you put on Twitter gets retweeted that's considered a positive endorsement for you.

Measures Level of Influence — A person that's constantly retweeting others will be spreading the impact of his influence among many people. On the other side, if a person retweets a message once in a while, that will have a bigger impact.

Considers Existing Reputation of Members — Being endorsed by a Whuffie-rich person will have a stronger impact than being endorsed by an average user.

Analyzes Content of Messages — When message with a link gets retweeted, it's usually because of the content in that link rather than the person itself. So when someone gets retweeted for something they exclusively said, that will have a bigger impact on the algorithm.

SO here is another alternative means of currency being explored through the measurement of reputation as measured on your positive impact on the social connectedness of the worl.

So who's up to get a Whuffie account?

Why not go the other way around, have everyone's basic needs absolutely taken care of on the grounds that each individual is alive, and that alone is an amazing and precious thing worthy of the highest value, because it's impossible to know all the good things people are contributing to the world when the world is as complex and connected as this one is.

I am not sure how reputation can be measured by twitting...Does it mean that people who have no twitter account have no reputation? Does it mean that a no life gangster can have great reputation by tweeting all day long, spamming tweets and retweeting useless stuff?

My doubts aside, thanks for sharing!

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
