I would have to say my favourite secret is "Don’t fight culture (If people cook by stirring their stews, they’re not
going to use a solar oven, no matter what you do to market it. Make
them a better stove instead.)".
I see this as helping me in my journey towards innovation because it's a thought to help keep me grounded in my venture. Too many times I see and hear of people wanting to change things in other nations and cultures. This is great and noble of them, however I have to ask myself if they are trying to take into consideration how that culture is used to living. In my mind change is best able to be implemented if it works with the way of the culture.
This secret can remind me to do my research, before barging headlong into unknown terrain, and implement practices that can meld into the area I'm looking at implementing them. It also may help to remind me to 'go with the flow' sometimes I may have to change and revise my plans to get them to work as I would like them to, and to be suitable for all people I'm trying to touch. Everyone is different, and how I live my life may not be the same as how another Justine Roberts half way across the world walks their path in this life. Don't fight these differences, embrace them, as that is what makes each culture unique.
