Since I work with children as part of my profession, I find myself having to constantly be on my toes and figure out what it is exactly that keeps children interested, and applying this to people regardless of age or background on a global scale, I think one of the most important skills a person can have is to BE memorable. Say, do, or wear something that keeps people guessing, keeps their attention, and keeps them interested in what it is that you have to say or to teach.
I remember from last week in my dance class one of my young students (5yrs) complained that a movement was too hard and with a lazy smirk she said, " I can't do it! Its too hard." But my other students were quick to say, "no it isn't."
I said, "There is no "can't" in my class, only "I CAN", okay? I know you can do it!" I smiled at her and she nodded and tried harder and was finally able to push herself up from the floor to balance using only one arm and one leg. I was so proud of her!
Adults teach children the concept and word "can't." If we did not teach this concept, then would kids just try harder until they were finally able to succeed? If so, then how many kinds would succeed, and thrive in this type of learning environment?
