According to the data from the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS 2001), over 2.24 million low-income adults are suffering from hunger everyday. Working people with families and children are starving because of low-income. Even retired elderly people are hungry. Those living in households with incomes below
200% of the federal poverty level are starving from hunger. This doesn't seem right, does it? These people need food to live, just like us. When people are hungry, without food, then they spend their incomes specifically on food. This means they have no extra money for necessities such as utilities and toiletries, medical care, and clothing. Also, when you have no money and you are hungry then the smart thing to do would to be to buy the cheapest stuff. The cheapest food these days is unhealthy and doesn't provide people with the nutrition they need to survive.
