The biggest issue right now in the world is making sure we have a food source. You can't grow food if you don't have water.
There are water shortages worldwide - we need a way to come up with it and get it where it's not available. One solution would be to expand communities around areas where water is readily accessible, but that's not very practical.
A quicker, simpler solution would involve concentrating efforts on purifying rivers and lakes that have been contaminated by mankind, as well as developing ways to extract salt and other minerals out of seawater in order to make it good to drink. Expanding and popularizing rain-catch systems would be useful, as well - how much rain falls in any given place that's allowed to escape into uninhabited, unused ground?

Amos Meeks and I collaborated on a farmpunk kit, geared towards popularizing home gardening. You can access it here:
Does anyone have any direction or information re: water conservation? I don't have much direction on it, nor any idea where to look for it.
