A crash course in changing the world.
Each Solar Road panel can develop around 7.6 kwh of power each day, and each costs around US$7,000. In addition, every Solar Road panel has its own microprocessor and
energy management system, so if one gives out, the rest are not borked. If such technology is proven to work, they could realistically
wean the world off fossil fuels. According to the Solar Roadways' website if the wh*** world's road networks were to adopt this technology (if it is proven to work) then the "lit" half of the planet could realistically always power the "dark" half of the planet as the Solar Road system is a secure decentralized power grid.
After reading this article about this possible solution to the world's energy addiction, I began to wonder; if such a technology were to exist and proven to work. When will we; the human race, begin to outstrip the energy production of such a system. One of the few reasons we are not consuming as much energy as before is the fact that we are now acutely aware of the slowly diminishing non renewable energy resource at our disposal (plus the obvious fact that our wallets are hurting from the results of high oil prices).
What I am trying to say is, if we are secured in the knowledge that we have huge renewable resource at our disposal, will we return to our old habits and consume like we did in the past? will we still conserve our energy resources as we are now? what is there to stop us from consuming at an accelerated rate?
