A crash course in changing the world.
This approach to the sustainable management of the water crisis, I found it very interesting.
The interesting thing about this concept is the fact that water is needed for each production. In agriculture it is used in the form of rain or irrigation water, in industry, eg as cooling water. The final product is the water used is no longer (or only a small part) included physically and is therefore referred to as "virtual water".
Thus, trade in the products but also an act of virtual water. The idea here is that trade can be offset by the availability of water in the world. The geographer Allan Anthony came to this realization. The idea for this concept by Anthony Allan was the fact that water-poor countries meet their demand for basic foodstuffs such as cereals from imports from water-rich countries, rather than to produce it. The target is a spatial shift of the water-intensive agricultural production. South Africa begins to go down this path. In 1997, to conserve water resources and especially the problem of under-supply of drinking water under control, the issue White Paper on Water Policy, which states: "Where there is water to produce water-intensive products (...) is required it may be more efficient to import it, than to try to produce it in a water-poor area. the introduction of management instruments such as pricing support this approach." The aim of this clear water policy is to expand the trade in virtual water to conserve water resources. In the course of which have since been raised prices for water and its provision, since 2004, water is rationed further. In order not to disadvantage poor populations, support programs have been introduced for the poor.
The picture shows the water consumption of everyday goods.
Although with this concept the water scarcity cannot be cleared completely but it is a first step towards the improvement.
