Hello fellow Agents,
I live near lake Ontario in upstate New York.
We call it a Lake, part of the Great Lakes but it is really an Inland sea. Because of this wonderful body of water, weather systems develop over it in the fall and winter that brings a constant snowfall. Last year was not to bad, but ti give you and idea of snowfall up here in years past...
in 2007 towns got 6-7 feet of snow in one storm
In 2001, the town of Montague, a few miles southeast of Watertown, received 127 inches in a five-day period, and some towns in Oswego County have had more than 200 inches of snow in a single year.
Blizzard conditions, white outs results in ... stranded motorists, heat location problems for family's,seniors and people with medical conditions, and people and pets getting lost in the snow.
For us, a pretty snowfall scene can turn into a major disaster quick. Which is why I am glad I discovered Ushahidi. With this system in place, we can respond to people i need with direct lat/ long gps coordination...something thats uber important when you cannot see any landmarks around you.
I will be passing this system on to the local emergency responders for our region.
Thanks Evoke
Namaste
