Learning Centers for Rural Afghan Women in Herat

So I have decided to continue in my Afghan theme for ACT6 and have found a project in Herat (which is in the West of the country) through Global Giving.

No education has been available to women and girls in the western province of Herat, for the last decade under the Taliban regime. Project partner AIL began offering Women’s Learning Centers to women and girls in rural Herat during 2003. These education services include literacy and skills training cla****. This project will ensure continuation of these urgently needed, accessible, culturally sensitive services. As I understand it the project aims to provide literacy, English, and income-generating skills cla**** offered at Women’s Learning Centers in Herat, to over 7,000 students a year.

I have set up a small monthly donation to this project to help get them to their stated goal of $30,000.

In actual fact they only have to raise a further $8,454 to do this and I thought it might be a rather nice idea if the good folk of Evoke could help get them there. A one off donation of $0.50 by every one of the 16,000 odd members of Evoke would do in one fell swoop...but I am a realist and understand that is unlikely for a number of reasons. But if just 1000 of us were able to donate $8 we could help the team in Herat provide a full array of educational services to hard-to-reach rural women and girls vastly improving the education of Afghan women in the region.

A small step with a massive impact.

I implore you to help and donate to this very worthy cause. This is their website for some truly inspiring stories and great images of how your money can help - http://www.creatinghope.org/

And if you do wish to give through Global Giving then this is where you can do it - https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/learning-centers-afghan-women/

This is a fantastic cause you've found to support, Ben - and I admire your call to action for the EVOKE community. It truly is amazing how when many give a little much can be done.

Thanks Josh. I'll be pushing like crazy to get others hooked into this...it's powerful and a real game changer for a region and it's people. Anything you can do to help would be very much appreciated.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
