LETS do it!!

Well, my favourite experiment was that of the LETSystems- being from BC, I can’t believe I’d never heard of them before! But I think the
solution that will bring about the most change in the future of money in
our
world is that of the DIY currencies like “craigbucks”. Though, in a way,
it
seems to me like these two things are actually the same. When you start a
LETS,
you automatically introduce some kind of currency that is in addition to
the
national one. The example of Michael Linton’s LETSystem in Comox, BC (in
my
home province!) trades two types of goods using a credit system.
Essentially,
this is a type of DIY currency, isn’t it?

The reason I think DIY currencies will impact the world the most is because of the way I see technology advancing within the next few
decades.
Companies like Twitpay or QQ coins or M-PESA are alternatives to big
banking
corporations that often charge huge interest on loans. I think that
people will
begin to look to alternatives such as this as they lose trust with the
MNC’s in
the future. Thus, I believe that “craigsbucks” and other similar
currencies-
that we can pay with our phones or other handheld and mobile devices
will
become more popular in the near future. And, if you consider LETS which
are
even locally focused, this introduces even more trust from people on
both ends
of the transaction (no anonymity) and an increased amount of
transparency that
people will want to utilize again in the future.
