A crash course in changing the world.
safety, calming, connection, efficacy and hopeThese five elements are important in crisis. I read the text about “Managing Panic in Pandemic” and in my opinion the text learns you a lot about psychological first aid.
Epidemiologist Dori Reissman is talking about the key role of journalist in crisis management. Journalists have to be aware of various concerns to help in crisis. Reissman said that psychological first aid is when good things will happen if you do them. The five elements play a role in this statement. Safety, Calming, Connection, efficacy and hope combine the concerns a person need in a crisis.
•Safety is about removing people from a threat.
•Calming happens when you want to lower the state of arousal so people can function, concentrate and take concrete steps towards what they need to do to protect themselves.
•Connection: People's basic need to connect with others and not be isolated needs to be attended to.
•Efficacy occurs when someone is capable of taking action on their own. When they do so as a member of a group, that's collective efficacy.
•Hope: The idea that the world is predicable and we will get through it, that's hope.
Peoples trust is an important topic. People have to trust you, that they really hear your massage and do what you say. Push technology is also a challenge for journalist. What does these means. People have concerns and when you spread out your massage you have to meet that concerns. People have to understand these massage and they have to know what they should do. A push technologie can influence behavior and can increase the accountability of one’s personal and the community’s safety.
Journalist can be ideals to people to deal what someone house in his mind. It is important to deal with it, to learn trusting someone and to reducing risky behavior.
So all in all journalist can influence people in various ways. When they start trying to consider the topics Dori Reissman is mentioned in the article (http://www.nieman.harvard.edu/Microsites/NiemanGuideToCoveringPande...) they will be more successful.
