This physical object that I created for this mission is more of an innovative concept inspired by the indigenous hunter-gathers people named the “Nukak.”
They invented a very sophisticated fishing technique that has been reported in several cultures. “This technique uses nuún, the root of a Lonchocarpus sp. that contains a number of substances that when dissoluted in the water streams stun the fish, making them an easy catch for the Nukak.” –Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NukakAfter reading about this amazing technique, I thought to myself, “How could we apply this today to benefit the environment?” Then I began to think about today’s commercial fishing industry.
What if commercial fisherman dispensed nuún (or something that works similarly) when fishing? This could help fisherman catch fish easier, which would decrease the amount of time spent on the boat, which would save fuel and lessen the amount of pollutants being emitted into the atmosphere.
We could implement this technology through something like what I am demonstrating in the photo. Imagine if there were tubes filled with the liquid attached to some kind of chord that was attached to the boat. So when the boat was stopped, the tubes would be dropped and the liquid would be released numbing the fish.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
