The "Makana Trade Post" has recently opened on the outskirts of Joza, Grahamstown. Jacob Mtaleli was given inspiration for the innovative alternative to traditional economic exchange after witnessing the need for barter systems in his neighbourhood, namely the Joza township. The "Makana Trade Post" can be described as a 'barter broker' as the organisation essentially works as a middleman between those who wish to barter their goods. The organisation simultaneously ensures that no foul play can result during the barter process as the transactions do not occur between two individuals but rather, one may take goods to the "Makana Trade Post" and exchange them for a selection of items which have been deemed equal in value by members of the organisation. The project has already helped many of the unemployed members of the community to find purpose and practice their various skills despite unemployment while providing for their families.
