A crash course in changing the world.
For this mission I chose to shadow Emily Pilloton, the founder of Project H whose website can be found here. Project H Design stuck out to me in particular because of my Filipino roots.
Their Mission Statement: Project H Design connects the power of design to the people who need it most, and the places where it can make a real and lasting difference. We are a team of designers and builders engaging locally to improve the quality of life for the socially overlooked. Our five-tenet design process (There is no design without (critical) action; We design WITH, not FOR; We doc**ent, share and measure; We start locally and scale globally, We design systems, not stuff) results in simple and effective design solutions for those without access to creative capital. Our long-term initiatives focus on improving environments, products, and experiences for K-12 education institutions in the US through systems- level design thinking and deep community engagements.
While Project H only operates in the United States, I can see their approach being of great use to my family's home province in the Philippines, specifically the local school and community that my family hails from. Project H's approach is just... awe inspiring and something that I feel could be translated and put to use in other areas of the world with just as much positive effect.
I sought for and found Emily on Facebook and sent her a friend request. Here's to hoping she accepts!
