A crash course in changing the world.
I live in Germany, an industrialized country. As in most industrialized countries, the people have forgotten what it is to suffer hunger. In most industrialized countries, the food is often thrown away because it no longer looks good. While many people struggle in developing countries every day to avoid dying of hunger. They are two different worlds. That’s pretty unfair!
It is our duty to ensure that no person should ever suffer in this world of hunger.
I searched the Internet, what Germany is doing exactly for food security.
I came across the Food Security Center at the University of Hohenheim.
The organization of the Food Security Center is characterized by interdisciplinary approaches, using institutional synergies with already existing facilities and centers at the Universität Hohenheim, as well as with partnerships across the globe.
The Food Security Center’s mission is to provide innovative and effective scientific contributions to reduce hunger and achieve food security, contributing towards the progress of Millennium Developmental Goal 1, especially towards the eradication of hunger and malnutrition. Achieving this mission requires careful analysis and science-supported identification of effective and efficient policy, technical and institutional responses, including impact a****sment. The Food Security Center utilizes a multidisciplinary approach through teaching, conducting research and providing policy advice in cooperation with national and international development organizations and partner Higher Education Institutes in the developing world. The objectives of the Food Security Center are:
- To promote interdisciplinary teaching and training of PhDs and PostDocs through the Young Excellence School in Hohenheim and strengthening MSc and PhD programs at Partner Higher Education institutes in developing countries.
- To facilitate demand-driven and impact-oriented research at postgraduate level through empirical research projects in developing countries and collaboration with CGIAR centers, development organizations, and local and national stakeholders.
- To strengthen capacity building through North-South, South-North and South-South academic exchange by having visiting professorships and lectureships, as well as PhD scholarships and sandwich PhD/PostDoc scholarships.
- To support capacity strengthening at universities in developing countries through regional networking, fostering institutional linkages at the global scale, and providing structural and personal support of selected postgraduate study programs.
- To provide knowledge transfer and brokerage by organizing international conferences annually and support external conferences and expert meetings, organizing lecture series for the wider public, establishing a web domain and online discussion paper series, supporting publications and publication platforms, and offering policy advice and expert contacts.
In this example, you can see, there are many possibilities to help.
Anyone can help!
