A young man from Malawi spent some time reading about windmills, the knowledge that he gained from this process lead to the adventure of a lifetime, but more importantly, it lead to a revolution for the people around him. Having light at night is something we take for granted so easily. I realized from this story that with a little imagination and the drive to make it happen, nothing is impossible.
William Kamkwamba show us that you do not need a deep understanding of the elements of a problem to solve it. He has no background in engineering. He is a young man that never learned that is is hard to build your own power station. He did not have to figure out how to get off the grid, because he never had a grid. Often we find the most amazing solutions in places where people had to make do without years of study. Their lack of education sometimes sets them free to really dream the impossible and then to make it work, because no body told them that is was impossible.
Maybe we should spend more time outside the limits of our education. Make something work that we know nothing about. This is the spirit of innovation.
