A crash course in changing the world.
We start our holiday to southern Italy in the year 2020. I am 36 years old. My two children, Katharina, 5, and Jonas, 3, can't wait to see their grandfather who lives in Italy. We pack our car which is an electro mobility car full of luggage, food and drinks for the journey. The food is from our local farmer, and the water is from the local potable water processing plant. We pass the austrian Brenner by paying our fee by the electronic eco-payment system. Because we have an electro mobility car, we don't have to pay much, only a small amount of money.
In Italy it has become so hot that nobody survives without air conditioning. All air conditioning systems are run by solar cells, so that in hot countries all air conditioning systems produce the power to run themselves.
In Italy, many houses are still built the old way without heating but also badly isolated, so they have a bad environmental balance. Germany and other middle and northern european countries are much more advanced in building eco-friendly houses. These houses also produce the electricity they need through solar cells on the roof of the houses, collect water in big rain barrels and have a positive eco-audit each of them.
However, our holiday is going on well. After ten warm and sunny days we have moved ourselves only by bike, we drive back with our electricity-driven car. In Germany the weather is worse, but that's the reason why we go on holidays ;)!
