A crash course in changing the world.
It is 2020 and I am at the dinner table in my house which is in a game park in either South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania
or Kenya, there are many people at the table, some of my family, some work
colleagues (rich and poor), neighbours, friends and those that we come across throughout
our day that we feel need the food as well as the company most. Generally we
like to eat in a big group every night, taking it in turns to host, and having
no particular food theme, in other words everyone brings what they can to the
table and we all share everything. It is all about sharing our day with each other
and enjoying each other’s company, and being grateful for the food that we
have. As where I live is mostly rural/wild preserved foods are hard to come by,
so it is mostly fresh produce, a lot of mielies, chicken, eggs, fresh veggies
like tomato, pumpkin, marrows, salads(greens), fresh fruit like citruses,
bananas, melons and there is usually
always fresh home baked bread. Considering where we live we use what is
available to us, that is the land, so growth is the main source of all that we
eat. Everything is fresh and tastes exactly as it should as sauces and such are
not really a luxury want. Keeping it simple is the key to food security
success, as from what we have learned in the past, growing one’s own goods is
always beneficial, as well as sharing what one has with those around you.
