A crash course in changing the world.
When I think of 2020, I see solar power being the prominent source of energy in
America. From working in sports, I
see many of the stadiums that go unused throughout the year as a major provider
of solar energy. Imagine if the
seats that were in those empty stadiums were able to capture the power from the
sun and send it back into the grid.
Not only would the facility itself be self-sustainable, but it could
also help feed power back into the campuses that the stadium resides on. For example, imagine the Insight Bowl
being played in Sun Devil Stadium in the year 2020. Arizona State’s football team has finished their home season
of seven football games, and the Insight Bowl is the final event for the
stadium in 2020 until the Sun Devils come back to play in August 2021. That is literally 357 days that the
stadium is not filled with fans, where it could be soaking up the sun and
sending all that power back to the campus to power classrooms, computers and
research projects. I believe that
this change will happen very soon with universities, probably by 2015, as they
are all looking for ways to become green.
