A crash course in changing the world.
As we make our way out to the town square I check the time on my phone. It's 11:30 PM, almost time. I notice that my phone is also fully charged. For years now we've had technology in our clothing that picks up variations in heat and uses it to charge mobile devices. At this point we don't even worry about battery life. We continue our walk down the cold streets with the street lights guiding our way. It's nice to know that these lights essentially power themselves. During the day they charge through solar power and turn on at night. Solar power has become so efficient that nearly all residences have solar panels on the roofs. For many this is all the power they need. Electric companies generate any excess needed power through wind or dams. Most people still have their Christmas lights up and all that's needed to power them is a few minutes of sunlight. As we finally make it to the square the festivities are just about to start. As we walk I notice that the kinetic tiles are showing full charge. These tiles are powering all of the lights, food stands, and TVs in the area simply from people walking over them. And it seems that there must be a lot of people walking around because everything is luminescent. Just as it reaches midnight, and the new year, the fireworks roar into the sky. I notice that the fireworks seem to be the only thing powered by burning fuel. It's funny to think that with everything else powered by sustainable energy that we would pay homage to the new year with something that didn't. Then again maybe it's just a reminder of our past and a small profit for what's left of the fuel business.
