'NEXTSTEP' taking the nextstep on the One Laptop per Child Organization

'NEXTSTEP' taking the nextstep on the One Laptop per Child Organization
My most inspired blog:

The blog that inspired me the most was written by Emily on the One laptop per child organization.
This stuck very close to my heart because I think that the Idea of providing, low cost and low energy educational laptops to children in rural areas is amazing.

OLPC's Mission Statement: To create educational opportunities for the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning. When children haveaccess to this type of tool they get engaged in their own education. They learn, share, create, and collaborate. They become connected to each other, to the world and to a brighter future.

I think that it is a need to be able to have all the information the world has to offer a your fingertips. This is one of the best forms of education a child can experience.

The NEXTSTEP:

My next step forward would be to link up OLPC's with another company called Voltaic systems. They are the producers of solar powered laptop charges and solar powered bags that charge your laptop as you walk. This would allow children to use there laptops more often because in the rural areas they do not all have power plugs at home available. All they have to do is use solar energy to energize the laptops. Another one of my 'nextsteps' would to set up a solar powered "internet cafe" kind of building which would welcome everyone in the community to go there and have the internet available to them. Children can also take the laptops their and use them. This solar powered "internet cafe" will be a wi-fi hotspot.

This is the next step i would like to implement in the future and will try my best to make my NEXTSTEP come true.

One laptop per child is one of my favorite programs and yes those panels in the backpacks are the solution to the hand-crank :) That computer looks so much better than my computer!!!

Solar power for OLPC is a great next step. I know the volunteer grassroots group is talking about it in April including some Solar experts. I'll find out if its an open event or not and let you know.

@Caroline-That would be be great thanks.
@ Ayala-I have email both companies my plan on the NEXTSTEP, unfortunately they haven't replied yet but i will be sure to inform you when they do. You also asked what can you or anyone else do? I think the best thing that you or anyone else can do is to donate funding to OLPC to help them supply more laptops to children in need.

Thanks Reid

A most impressive innovation, Agent, worthy of +10 Resourcefulness, +5 Sustainability, and +5 Collaboration. Well done. Agent Emily will receive +20 Spark for her work as well.

I will have to look up what I saw the other day, but it is a Role up computer, rolls into a small round carry package, it has a A/C adaptor that could be interchanged to a solar panel type system, the rolltop can be found here http://www.ideaconnection.com/innovation-videos/140-rolltop-portabl.... Not sure economically how much sense it would make, but there is some sense in having it store away in something smaller then a backpack. We must remember a lot of the poorest people live in shanty houses and have little space. so any way to keep it simpler might help?

Hey Reid,
If you wish, I can try and introduce you to Walter De Brouwer, head of OLPC Europe...
You can hear all about their projects and way of working...

@ Christoph That would be absolutely fantastic if you could introduce me to Walter De Brouwer, is there anything I can do on my side to help??
Thank you so much

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
