Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

On behalf of Nick Heyming and Gratitude Gardens I am sending out an Urgent Evoke.

Gratitude Gardens is an Evokation with serious promise but it needs your help. First a little bit about Nick, Growcology, and Gratitude Gardens.

The first step in getting this global network of farms going is data mining.

First Step: Research

  1. Find out what grows best in your climate, where you live.
  2. Find out what edible and useful plants are native to your area.
  3. Explore the food and nature-crafts that the indigenous people of your area created.
  4. Learn about any colonizers to your area and what food they introduced.
  5. What are some heirloom or landrace plants (or livestock) that grow your area?
  6. What kind of indigenous cultivation and fertilization was used in your area? How did they ensure long-term fertility, instead of short term yields?
  7. Does any of this appeal to you? Seem tasty, useful, interesting? What do you want to grow?
I don't know about you but when I read that this list, not only is it confusing, but it sounds like a lot of work--but I think the issue is in the presentation, so here's what I need. I need 5 motivated agents who want to be a part of a pilot group. The goal being to eventually re-phrase the research steps so that they are understandable and manageable. Once the pilot group finishes their work I will edit/design a better survey for the community. There is no way that I can do this myself so I'm hoping that a few of you will want to be a part.

Message me or post here if your interested and I'll get in touch.

PS also if you are playing Evoke banking I am paying paying out 25 EVs

Nick, maybe a better question is what are people getting out of this project? What are you providing for the people who want to help make these kinds of gardens?

@koshy You misunderstand, databases are neither good nor evil, they are just a collection of facts. Yes the facts might be skewed in one direction or another, but we can compensate for that when we realize what they're missing. Most databases that I know of just tell me about plants, what they need, what they like, how they grow, what they look like. I know a database that just tells me about soil, how much clay, how much sand, the texture, the bedrock for any area. If we look at soil, and we look at plants and we see connections, then those connections are important, even if they may not be exportable because they can teach us about connections in other parts of the world when new databases become available.

@ethan certainly nick is the most charismatic...

@ Ethan, MAK, a.v.koshy --Thank you all very much for your enthusiasm but if you want to continue posting in this blog please make it about Gratitude Gardens and the research questions. I appreciate your posts and comments anytime, but this discussion is getting off topic.

It is not that I wish you to abstain from furture comments, I just want the intention of this blog to get side lined by private discussions. If you want make a blog about what you guys are debating and post a link here. That way we can follow both discussions and it won't sound like two people talking at the same time. Also people like yourself who approach problems from 45 degree angles are always valued in my book. I would love for you to be a part of the pilot group, and I will look forward to your contributions.

@a.v.koshy, thanks i try. Yeah having this be a intelligent form that can interact with Google maps would be fantastic, picture the map highlighting which areas had been investigated, very informative. In regards to MAK's point the chain of cause and effects can be very hard to predict, you know what they say about the butterfly's wings. Yes it is important to consider the consequences of one's actions, but that can't be the only driving force.

@Ethan--I still can't find this magical button that you all are talking about.

On a final note I don't want to stifle your comments but I know what can happen when you get the elephant the eyeball and the philosopher together. lol.

Nick mentioned that US and UK are pretty much covered; given that I come from the UK, is there anything I can help with? Please note - I'm a crap gardener, I tend to kill every plant I try to care for. Anything else though, if I can help a little I'm there...

Hello Wintermute, everyone!

I could not fit my response into a blog -- 966 K, mostly tables -- so I uploaded it as an open Google Doc:

Don't know if this is the sort of thing you want.. but heres some guilds I designed about 3 years ago. They're not tested but they're examples.

Yo guys.

Thanks to everyone for your contributions. Sorry that I haven't been as active lately, I had to get my terrestrial life in order first.

@Joshua Z--I don't know if that linked worked at the time you posted it, but it appears to be down now. Any chance that you could post it up again and message me so that I could take a look?

@Lynn, yes. Right now their are two things that need to get done. Firstly I we need to revise the list of questions so that they are easier to understand and answer. Secondly once we have a proper form written we will need to create a database to store it an a website to display the information and allow a place for users to submit. Those are big items and any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
