Hi Folks,
For this week's Urgent Evoke, I chose to learn about the types of sustainable energy projects available local to me in South-Eastern Ontario. Some are obvious. Last year a large
wind-turbine farm was erected very close to me on Wolfe Island. It is 86 wind-turbines and generates almost 200 MW of electricity.
The largest solar panel farm in Canada is also located near me in Stone Mills township. It's called
First Light 1 and currently it generates more than 9 MW of power which is smaller than the Wolfe Island wind-farm but it still offsets carbon emissions
equivalent to removing over 1700
cars from
the road each year! Wow!
So Eastern-Ontario is a great place to live if you are interested in Sustainable Energy. But what do you do if you want to learn more? What local organization can you talk to? That's the question I asked myself this week and I found the answer.
The
Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA) is a non-profit organization who's vision is:
"Every Ontarian is a conserver and generator of sustainable energy
either through a household or through a local community owned business,
contributing to the transition to 100% sustainable energy."
What a fantastic organization. Do you live in Ontario? If so - Join OSEA. It's free. Help them attain their vision.
Take care
-Eric
