I've been following TED talks pretty religiously for a while now, and I recently stumbled across a speaker called Patrick Awuah. In some ways he is an excellent role model for people who aspire to be 'social innovators'. Originally from Ghana, Awuah discusses the extreme state of corrupt power of the 'Elites' in his country, and other parts of Africa as well.
His solution is encouraging the teaching of liberal arts, because with liberal arts one is taught to rationalize, grow, learn in depth and build character. Along with learning notions of ethics.
Awuah's dream is to help influence the change required to have the next generation of leaders be those ethical, tolerant and rational individuals and not the one's we see today in Africa and many other parts of the world.
I recommend you give it a watch Innovators.
