Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

The social venture I'm making a contribution to is my own effort
to super-empower girls, by conducting penetration testing exercises
at schools' computer labs.
The groups are around 25 girls between 10 and 17 years.

Penetration testing is a computer security term that means
that you try to see where you can get into a given system, website,
network, file system, etc, The exercises in this case consist of
finding a way to gain access to data in a certain host of the LAN.
I give them technical support, clues, trendy shoes for prizes.

The kind of thinking that this activity demands,
the perception of an apparently insurmountable obstacle,
and then progressively the revelation of the not insurmountable angles,
the psychological empowerment is the key kind of empowerment,
all other derive from it, and these exercises are pure psychological empowerment,
besides the fact that they do actually learn state-of-the-art techniques
in systems infiltration, collateral teaching.

Sarah: This is really cool!!! I can imagine this girls grow very confident and surprised with themselves with their new skills. It must require so much deep lateral thinking. Great work!!!

i like the idea that you are leading them into a male dominates sphere, that of breaking into locked networks
i've not heard of pardon my ignorance
a single female hacker or cracker of repute
or pirate
i know it's just my ignorance
so i think you are really into some kind of revolutionary pioneer work here
at least im sure its a first in maybe argenitan or south america
hope i dont sound dumb

alright--so I thought hacking was what Mimi did before she died of consumption in La Boheme This sounds kind of fun--but how will the girls utilize their skills? Testing security systems as highly paid consultants for tech, business and other firms? Cool--you could get a wh*** team out, trouble shooting and... Are girls better because of a left/right brain connection, or is it patience and willingness to explore rather than storm?? thank you for interesting post.

women's hacker school. this is awesome. there is so little 'penetration' of women into the tech fields, though this seems to be slowly changing. the stereotype of computer engineer as male and social misfit needs to be thrown out.

@Michele Baron: it is interesting that you bring up the fact that the corpus callosum, which connects the two hemispheres, is actually thicker in the feminized brain (which also can be housed by a male body). by feminized, i mean that the brain received a larger dose of estrogen than testosterone in the womb.

@ nomadHAR, so not necessarily a gender-specific skill? Without the extra connectivity, "male" brains are more suited to single-focus tasks, even if multiple skills are involved? Interesting... @ miss Sarah--do you train in martial arts, and multi-task as well as multi-skill? (in re your photographs)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
