Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Mother Earth has been very active the last few months and my home town: Portland Oregon is due for an earthquake. by 2020 we will almost certainly have an earthquake here and will be in the same boat as Haiti and Chile. my family and a friend of ours outlined a (still primitive but growing) disaster safety net for our neighborhood.

in my neighborhood: my nextdoor neighbor has chainsaws, their neighbor has a hand dug well, the house across the street has a huge supply of food in the basement, my house has an urban farm and a canoe, we don't necessarily have access to all the tents we might need but we are working on this still. with so many houses in each neighborhood and each only needing to really supply one emergency tool, it's quite easy to establish a safety net as long as we talk to our neighbors, learn what resources they have so that we will know where to look when we need something. it is important for everyone, especially those who live in high risk areas, to speak with the people who live around them because if disaster strikes they can help you and you can help them.

Well said! While we do not have earthquakes in Florida, we do have hurricanes and my parents were hard hit buy Hurricane Ivan in 2005. With no electricity or water for weeks, working with neighbors was essential to get the necessities to survive.

I'm very glad to hear you're all working together to ensure that no one person has to take up the strain - as you say, if each house only has to offer up one aspect, you'll all be much stronger for your specializations. Well done you, your friend, and all your participating neighbors!
