LAOS:Family pressures exacerbate trafficking
"AFESIP provides support to families while the girls are in the shelter, including supplying food and water and contributing to house repairs when necessary. "
This story about shelters providing rehabilitation to women who are rescued from sex trafficking really struck a cord with me. It is unfathomable that these poor, innocent women could escape the horror of trafficking and still have to face being shunned by their own families! These women come home and instead of being greeted with joy and help from their families, they are thrown into fields and work in horrible conditions.
These shelters take it upon themselves to provide the care and support these women so desperately need. It is wonderful to see that they can even provide vocational skills for these women.
Unfortunately, they still have to face the stigma surrounded with being a trafficking victim but the shelter works everyday to chip away at it.
