A crash course in changing the world.

Raising Women Producers, Directors & LEADERS!

About 10 years ago I began teaching young girls how to create websites, videos and other digital media creations. The impact of this work is tremendous: a girl quickly realizes her power to create change in the world when given the tools to make new movements.

This year I am teaching a group of girls how to produce their own web series and mobilize their community around new endeavors. We started small, paying for 4 flip cameras for these students to start videotaping their experiences. They are now starting to script their own short videos featuring cooking adventures, comedy, history and school lessons along with slices of everyday life for 11 year olds in Los Angeles.

Because these girls are under 13 I will not post their videos here -- there are many web laws that make it challenges for children to engage effectively with their elders on the web, at least in the US. I can link to a former project we did in Providence, RI: http://www.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/13492/1093269?cpt=8&...
Sharing their stories of hope through tiles, paint, glaze and video.

As I am currently at the NAB show in Las Vegas for broadcasters and high end media professionals I notice that maybe 1 out of every 10 people here is a woman. This is SAD. There are so few women in leadership in media currently that the bulk of our best stories are not being told!

For all of the women out there, I encourage you to share your skills on the web and maybe teach a younger girl how to use the internet, video and digital creation tools. It can make a world of difference. Some of my former students are now teachers, producers and creators in many fields and it is wonderful to see them out there making a difference in their own communities.

Thanks EVO,

Here is another interesting site for women film makers wanting to share their stories --
