A crash course in changing the world.

Real food for real people! What's the most nutritious food on the planet? Fresh greens!

Having been homeless for about 7 months, and extremely poor for many years beyond that, I know all too well that real, wh***, healthy food isn't always easy to come by, even through food subsidy programs, where empty calorie, fatty, heavily processed food is usually what's on the menu. But I was lucky enough to discover how easy it is to find and grow my own high quality food, even when the most permanent structure I could call my own was a bicycle and bike trailer...

If you take a look at the USDA's data on nutritional values for food (scroll down a bit for the good stuff), you discover something absolutely unheard of in most kitchens, which is that the absolute top food, out of pretty much everything you can buy in most grocery stores is, drumroll please....

Basil!

And closely following in the awesomeness factor for power foods are:

Taro leaves
Asparagus
Horseradish-tree leafy tips
Dock
Alfalfa sprouts
Turnip green
Chervil
Kale
Zucchini
Mustard greens
Jute
Chives
Sweet potato leaves
Lambsquarters
Collards
Pokeberry shoots
Celtuce
Broccoli raab
Mustard spinach
Spearmint
Peppermint
Purslane

You might notice that not only are most of these foods from plants that grow wild in a lot of areas, but also that nearly all of these foods are the leaves, stems, and sprouts of the plant, rather than the fruits or roots, which mean that these foods can be grown much more quickly than fruits/veggies. And many of these can be grown in small spaces, on roofs, in windows, and in less than ideal growing soil, or in the case of sprouts no soil at all! And most of these produce an abundance of seeds for continuing the process, so the only need is for starter plants or seeds. Promoting the idea of finding or growing the highest quality foods right in your own community, yard, home, or even in your bicycle's basket or panniers, solves many problems at once, because dark green leafy plants not only offer the best food value on the wh*** planet, but these plants also act as water and air purifiers, and studies have shown that looking at plants has a very relaxing effect, which is something many of us in this stressful world can use. :-)

Wheatgrass is also another excellent option. For some reason the USDA didn't bother to study wh***, fresh wheatgrass (they only included packaged, processed, pasturized juice), but in other studies wheatgrass has been shown to be extremely potent food, as well as a medicine that helps heal all sorts of illnesses, so I believe wheatgrass deserves far more research by a variety of non-profit science groups to establish it's true value for humans.

Eating local, and focusing resources on the highest quality foods makes sense in nearly every respect, don't you think?

you understand why I am determined to have so much chard that it seems almost like "too much chard". Its possible to mostly live on it.

My little 5 year old housemates and I just planted kale and lettuce and chard and beets and spinach in the front yard over the past two days, now that spring is visiting. And yes, I love chard too!

I love greens. And I've done my share of foraging in both the US and Africa. Great post!

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
