The approach I'm taking here is to highlight some of the points of the plans for the City of Richmond, California that has developed an Emergency Preparedness Plan, online so that the city and other areas may review and compare for their own cities.
Overall plan includes: Business Emergency Planning Guidelines; Emergency Preparedness Planning Websites; and, Employee Development Training
Business Emergency Planning Guidelines:
Preparedness helps avoid or minimize loss of lives and property and can help assure continuity of production which is so important to the recovery of an area after a disaster. Within the city of Richmond is the Fire Department Emergency Preparedness.
It is important with any plan that mutual assistance agreements with other business or industrial facilities provide a means to ensure that additional resources will be available for use in emergencies. This is key to community preparedness. Local business, the fire and police departments should all work in conjunction with one another to better serve the communities in which we live and better respond to all types of emergencies -- especially with good advance planning.
Business On-Line Resources:
Some of the online sites are:
-Richmond Fire, Office of Emergency Services
-Ready Business
-Department of Homeland Security
-FEMA for Businesses
-Emergency Preparedness for Business from National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
-Association of Bay Area Governments
-Business.gov Emergency Preparedness
Employee Development:
This Employee Development Program focuses on:
-Emergency Operations Plans
-SEMS (Standardized Emergency Management System)
-NIMS (National Incident Management System)
-REACT/CERT Training, for employees, as well as families
-Emergency Shelter Management
-Operational Area Development
-Staff Training
These types of activities contribute directly to the ability of local government to respond to and recover from the effects of a major disaster, in a thorough and efficient, as well as effective manner.
