A crash course in changing the world.

Sam Ikpe Ituamahas - Social Entrepreneur and Hero

Ever since I first saw Saving Africa’s Witch Children, a Dispatches programme made for Channel 4 and first shown on Wednesday 12th November 2008, I have been horrified by the fate of young children branded as witches by Evangelical churches and subjected to horrifying ill-treatment, both by their own communities and families and by their churches. You can click the link below to access the programme in its entirety, but I must warn you, many of the scenes here are heart-breaking to watch.

Like many other people in this country, I was incensed by
the mistreatment of these children and spent a lot of time online looking up information about what was happening to them. To make sure that I had all the

news, I did a Google search on the words “Africa’s Witch Children” and got regular update about the children in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.and also those affected in other parts of Africa.

The two main heroes in this unfolding tragedy Gary Foxcroft of Stepping Stones, Nigeria who was shadowed during this film as he went about collecting children and remonstrating with those who had abandoned them, and the unsung hero Sam Ikpe Ituamah of CRARN (The Children’s Rights and
Rehabilitation Network) who initially started off by rescuing four children and ended up running a shelter and school for over one hundred and fifty children and I am very pleased that his work has eventually been recognized and he was given the Heroes Award for “dogged fight against man's inhumanity to man”

I chose Sam Ikpe Ituamahas my hero because rather than just talking about the problem, he took it upon himself to ensure that these children were taken into a loving and nurturing environment and kept safe. He
did this even when he CRARN was attacked and his own life was put in danger. Where others chose to vilify these children for all the wrongs in their society, he stood up for them, campaigned for them and gave them the sort of practical help that has kept many of them alive and ensured that they will have
a brighter future.

The website for CRARN can be found at: http://crarn.tripod.com/ It is not the best website that I have ever seen, but I guess we can forgive CRARN for having somewhat different priorities. For those who want to become friends of CRARN, there is a Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=33613179227&r... where members of Facebook can sign up, show their support and learn about the good work that CRARN is still doing. I have also taken the trouble to email Sam and let him know that he is to be my hero on Evoke and an example of social entrepreneurialship at its best. I do hope he replies and allows me to quote his reply to all of you here.

I think that Sam Ikpe Ituamah personifies the ideal hero in
that he became aware of what was going on in his community and took responsibility for protecting and providing for these children - an onerous task by anyone's standards. If I take any lesson from this great man it is that knowing what is wrong is only half the battle. We can all shout about the wickedness of this world, but few are willing to put themselves out to do anything about it.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
