Secret of Missing EVOKE Powers and Social Activism

the EVOKE 'powers' just seem suspect to me, with the fact that the World Bank is sponsoring Urgent Evoke. many of the 'powers' focus on invention and capitalism. people have been involved in entrepreneurship for centuries; however, many of the worst problems don't go away by throwing money at them.

it seems to me that there are several ideas at the HEART of social activism that are not present in the EVOKE 'powers'.

0) COMPASSION - LOVE, not capitalism or profiteering, should be the basis of social activism.

0) CHARITY - we work for the benefit of others, not for profit or fame.

0) EMPATHY - in order to understand the problems of the world, we must be willing to stand in the shoes of others.

anyone else have some missing EVOKE 'powers' to add?

remember, seek the TRUTH!

Ah, Koshy, you could always just look at my profile page to see what gender I am. :-)

And nomadHAR, those people who are "successful" in nonsustainable ways (have lots of profits) started out burnt out. That's why they are so full of misery and sickness on the inside. They don't love themselves or their work. Many of them don't even know that it's possible to do so.

@A.V.Koshy: i have indeed been a teacher; levels include 4th-12th grade, undergraduate, adult/continuing education. education is one of the things i am most passionate about; i plan on teaching again, or at least being involved in educational projects and research. that is why i am always trying to learn/share information and instigate discussion.

@Michele Baron: very, very interesting. i am an old-school lefty-liberal independent and i definitely fall into the camp of only believing in the first two: harm/care and fairness/reciprocity. i have a certain amount of disdain for the other three.

acceptance is better than tolerance. to me, tolerance means that people put up with what they don't agree with, but may still look down upon others. acceptance means believing that people are all equal and have a right to live how they want, as long as it doesn't bring harm.

yes i too prefer the word acceptance to tolerance just as i prefer the word equality to empowerment

I prefer to help people reach a state of appreciation, rather than just acceptance, which is, to me about the same as tolerance. Both imply a negative view of others, rather than a positive one.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
