A crash course in changing the world.
"Common things happen commonly. Uncommon things happen uncommonly. So when you hear the sound of hoofbeats, think horses-- not zebras." - unknown
It's Occam's Razor, but it's harder than it seems.
When a complex problem exists, the tendency is to assume a complex solution is required but it makes more sense to build from the bottom up. Lay a strong foundation that you know will hold before you try a new structure upon it. Try the things we KNOW work before we attempt new things. Don't be afraid of the process of elimination.
We often forget the basics...
- Identifying the strengths and build upon them and instead of jumping directly into "fixing" the weaknesses.
- See what is working and figure out why before we set out to put a band-aid on what isn't.
- Realize the influence of group-think before labeling groups as "helpful" or "hurtful".
- Give in to the power of ownership and possession and use it productively.
It's important to build from the bottom up whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned professional. In the end, its always the foundation that keeps the building strong.
Start simple. See and do the obvious.
...and then...
Build upon it.
