“It is crucial that the terrible acts of sexual violence they both stand accused of are exposed in the legal process currently under way,” stated Ms. Wallström.
“Only by explicitly bringing these horrible deeds into the open can we help to break history's greatest silence.”
Two men were apprehended last week after evading authorities for over 16 years or so. One person, Ratko Mladiae, war-time leader of the Bosnian serb forces, was captured in charges of sexual abuse; 15 counts that include the murder of close to 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica in July 1995. In the indictment, sexual abuse or sexual violence is mentioned five times.
In this case and many others specifically, as quoted by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Margot Wallstrom said, that the indictments of the two men show that the fight against impunity for crimes of conflict-related sexual violence continues to yield results.
The other case is similar and the problem is that these cases and many others of its nature are silenced.
Something must be done to stop this pattern. Whether it be someone famous or not, predators and violaters are just that and should be exposed and punished for their wrongdoing.

A great majority of these cases occur in Central America.
Gender violence, however, remains largely concealed by prevailing social attitudes that condone it and by the victims’ reluctance to report abuse.
A strategy recommended to prevent and eliminate violence against women, which must take into account the specific characteristics that set this crime apart. It (the crime) is hidden under domestic violence, which makes it appear as though the crime is a private, family matter.
The first step that must be taken to make the problem visible, is to increase awareness on the nature, magnitude and consequences for society as a wh***. Also, the importance of "combating impunity and defining more fully and specifically the behaviiors that constitute forms of violence against women and must be treated as criminal offences punishable by law.
