(And by that I mean, an entity that is legally prohibited from making a profit (and isn't taxed), but is recognized as being a benefit to the world and legally allowed to ask for and accept donations, while also being independent from a board of directors or membership votes.

Basically I want to be allowed the freedom of having an independent business, while making it clear that we're putting more into the world than taking out of it, and that no one is getting any extra money beyond a set salary based on a healthy living wage (or less if they choose).

I'm not sure I'm explaining it well, but it's something I feel strongly about. Though at this point I've started to just ignore most laws and mainstream approaches to things, and I'm kind of just doing my own thing, and not giving it a name. :-)

They also sponsor free virtual office space for nonprofits, info at http://www.nonprofitcommons.org I've had an office there for 3 yrs and it is fantastic platform for connecting with nps all over the world (we meet every week) and spreading awareness of your org in a way that works.

I don't want something that is either a Business or a Non-Profit, I want a third option that has some elements of one or the other, and doesn't have some elements from one or the other. Know what I mean?
