I'm presently reading "The Blue Sweater" by Jacqueline Novogratz of the Ac**en Fund
http://bit.ly/8ZuEVZ. Her story is very compelling and more importantly led her to take on bigger and bigger projects that do indeed have the potential to benefit millions of people. I think she and her organization have much to teach. I've joined the Ac**en Community and they are having great discussions and case studies.
I am also increasingly impressed with a local artist and acquaintance I met through our local twitter group. Judy is an artist, but she also uses art as healing with children, at-risk populations, hospitals. She is in tune with herself and a great, intuitive social innovator. Her blog "Kitsune: The Fox Woman's Mirror"
http://bit.ly/cOtGsI is informative and inspirational. Including her as my hero will also allow me to get more personally, hands on involved because she is local.
Another powerful example of social innovation is the work being done at VideoVoice Collective
http://bit.ly/81bKjc especially by Caricia Catalani and her phenomenal work in New Orleans. I would love to find a project like that to work on.
This exercise also made me think abut what I should be doing to mentor and/or be a role model for others. That will be another of my personal assignments.
