Social Innovation - Tori Hogan (Beyond Good Intentions)

Even though I already know a couple of Social Innovation heroes, I wanted to find out about an inspiring person I didn't know yet. After some searching, I found out about Tori Hogan (www.linkedin.com/pub/tori-hogan/5/42b/331). Tori is the person behind www.beyondgoodintentions.org, she is dedicated to start a movement towards change (transforming the field of international aid).

I found out about her through www.socialedge.org/blogs/beyond-good-intentions and I will follow her on these websites and Twitter.com/torihogan. I will look at these websites at least twice a week and I have contacted her by e-mail yesterday (no reply yet). This is the e-mail:

Dear Tori,

I'm a member of EVOKE and one of the missions in EVOKE (www.urgentevoke.com) is shadowing a hero. After some searching on the web (I wanted to find out about someone I didn't know already) I choose
you as my social innovation role model. I looked at www.beyondgoodintentions.org, twitter.com/torihogan and www.socialedge.org/blogs/beyond-good-intentions and I read that you were planning on circ**navigating the globe again in March.

Would you be willing to keep on updating me on what you're experiencing and discovering, so I can learn from you? If there's anything I can help you with, just let me know (I'll be glad to return the favor). Keep up the good work.

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Rick van der Pluijm

Yes she e-mailed me the following:

Dear Rick,

Thanks so much for your email! It is quite humbling to be considered a role model in the field of social innovation. I really appreciate your interest in my work.

It's wonderful that you were able to check out the "Beyond Good Intentions" series. I'm looking forward to producing more films on my next trip. At the moment I am wrapping up some work here in the U.S. for a few weeks, and then I will be heading back to the field next month. I'll be in East Africa until August producing some new films and working on the research for my upcoming book. I'd be happy to share my experiences with you along the way. Just send me an email or two during the next few months and I'll certainly let you know how things are going.

Good luck with your missions in EVOKE. I would be very interested to hear your perspective on the game once you're finished!

Thanks again!
Tori

I've got another reply by Tori!:

Dear Rick,

Nice to hear from you. I am currently in Scandinavia and I won't arrive in East Africa until mid-May. I'm really looking forward to the trip and I'm sure I'll have plenty of updates once I'm on the ground.

I hope all is well.

Best wishes,
Tori

Congratulations @Rick. Wonderful hero. I have posted a blog on the 1,000,000 T-Shirts Campaign - http://ning.it/bPRGy7. Seems to me this campaign needs to read Tori Hogan's website right away :)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
