More than 1.1 billion do not have access to clean water. That is a real problem. Polluted water can cause serious problems like diseases.
I found an interesting project from Switzerland which fights for clean water in less developed countries. The aim of this project is to improve the standards of health.
They invented a machine which uses solar energy to disinfect the water. This should simplify the access to clean water. The project is called Sowadis (solar water disinfection). It works similar to a water boiler. But unlike a water boiler you only have to cook the water for five minutes on a temperature of 70 degrees instead of 100 degree. Like that viruses and bacilli can be killed. This machine is able to produce 500 liter drinkable water each day. Thanks to the solar energy it is also energy-efficient.
This project was already being tested in Bangladesh, Mozambique and Tanzania and it was working well. The next level will be to integrate local companies. Then “Sowadis” will also produce new jobs.
I liked this idea of having clean water by using solar energy and nevertheless having new opportunities to work in less developed countries.
