Each Spring and Summer we grow vegetables and some fruits in our garden. The boys pick their own "crops" and plant them and tend them. They work to feed people, not the deer, and to experience eating the fruits of their labors, literally.
It is a small step, but one that is age-appropriate and that will help to educate two of the next generation so that they come to school and to the food security question with some experience and some messages about how we must provide for all people.
