Suggestion: Add Language Support to EVOKE

A quick suggestion for the EVOKE admins -- add the Google Translate widget to EVOKE. I've seen a number of posts (like A. V. Koshy's and Sarah Shaw Tatoun's, both of which coincidentally respond to a challenge by Alex Stovell) that state, quite correctly, that language is a barrier to participation in EVOKE. The translator widget will automatically translate the contents of the page into any of a long list of languages. It's not perfect, but it may be better than nothing.

I'm certain, in a community of 14,000+ people, that someone has already made this suggestion. I was not able to find it, though. If so, I'd still like to reiterate the request.

Thanks for considering it. I've posted this request both here and in the forums, to increase the chance of it being seen.

Thanks for posting this Ninmah. Computer translations are FAR from perfect- frequently incomprehensible, in fact, but you're right that they are certainly better than nothing, and they usually manage to give you at least the general idea of what a post is about. I would urge people with languages however, to do to provide human support for people with limited English. It's the best way to help them build their skills and it also goes a long way to building relationships.

Sarah, I definitely agree that human translators beat the computer ones hands down. I saw your generous offer to translate for Czech speakers and I applaud your willingness to do that!

If anyone is trying to post in English and would like help with grammar, spelling, and so on, please send me a personal note and I'll be glad to look at your posts. Unfortunately, I don't have enough skill with the other languages I've studied to be able to offer to translate.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
