A crash course in changing the world.
So I tried out Swagbucks. I have heard about it before, but I just made my first transaction using it!
Swagbucks is a bit different from PayPal or other forms of exchanging money in that it actually is a service. It's a search engine. And through this search engine, users are rewarded Swagbucks at random intervals of random amounts (10, 20, 50, and there may be more) which then can be used at the Swagstore. These can be redeemed for movies, mp3s, collectibles, electronics, and there's even an Eco-swag section. But these Swagbucks, earned by searching the internet, acc**ulate to earn enough points to "buy" things.
The person who recommended the site to me typically trades in her Swagbucs for Amazon gift cards and then does some grocery shopping that way. So, for just searching the internet, she can get free groceries. That seems pretty awesome.
I didn't want my first transaction to be used in the acquisition of "stuff," so I found in the Gift & Reward Cards section an opportunity to use 150 swagbucks to plant a tree. This was in conjecture with Seed the Future, and gave me my choice of where to plant. Seed the Future even sent me a PDF certicficate (which it recommends printing on recycled paper) stating that I had planted a tree in India.
I'm racking up enough Swagbucks to plant more trees very soon! I may go for something else soon too, but this is a very easy system to use and has great benefits and rewards for doing something you do anyway--searching the internet.
