A crash course in changing the world.
It is always hard to take a step back from the lifestyle we are used to. But there are quite some easy ways enabling every one of us to contribute to global food security. Here are 3 steps that I have already taken and that are easy to follow for everyone of us:
1. Do not use Biodiesel for your cars. Biodiesel is being made from rapeseed and soy, plants that could also be used as food for those who hunger instead of fueling cars with them.
2. Grow your own salad, fruits and vegetables. The only thing you need is a bit of space (just 4 square meters will already do the trick). If you get yourself a small greenhouse you can efficiently minimize the caring efforts and at the same time increase the productivity. You can easily grow most sorts of salads, strawberries or even potatoes. Give it a try, you will find that it is easier then you may expect!
3. Get yourself a portable herb garden. If your appartment has a balcony, get yourself a big plant pot or a balcony flower box and plant some basic kitchen herbs in it. If you want fresh herbs during wintertime just move your herb garden inside your appartment (e.g. your kitchen) in autumn to protect it from frost.
