Many people are all for electronic money because of the perks they bring. And I'll be the first to admit that at the rate that we're going, we're probably going to develop a way to completely integrate real and physical money or currency in the next 10 years. Hopefully, this will be the end result. I say hopefully, because a few want to make it a completely digital system. Right now, there are so many different electronic currencies, so I'll expect that number will go up exponentially as time pa****.
If we all have different monetary values invested into many different mediums, I really hope that you can remove your money and switch it for material money without any questions asked, or else that could really complicate things.
I think that we should have a monetary system completely accessible with both material cash and digital dollars. There shouldn't be a disadvantage to only using one system. Because in the digital world, people have technology masking their identity, so fraud and identity theft is much easier. For this reason, they can use their real possessions as a backup chute. The same goes for those who've lost their physical possessions; they can use the money in the digital world as a backup. Some people don't own any technology, and I don't think its fair to put them at a disadvantage for it.
There are ups and downs to using either side; bartering can be done on both sides with varying results, you can find valued and repeated sellers and customers, thus building a relationship with trusted sellers. All of these things can be accomplished on either, but with different dynamics accompanying them. Bartering or haggling could be more intimidating in real life, so do it over eBay instead.
This is what I think the future of money should look like; a marriage between physical and digital means, coming together as a unit.
