I set out on this mission to find someone doing something significant in the area of education. I found a number of fascinating blogs, discussing integration of Web 2.0, Flat Classroom paradigms, and it sparked a number of ideas for my own teaching experience. I also finally set up a blog reader to subscribe to a number of blogs I've discovered!
The entrepreneur I decided to highlight for this post is Salman Khan, of the Khan Academy. The Khan Academy is a not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere. They are doing this by producing thousands of short educational videos on a wide variety of subjects, and offering them free, online. The mini lectures are on math, finance and science related topics.
This follows the dynamic which has been beginning with a number of top universities of offering course material online, or open textbook projects. This Academy, however, is mostly the work of one man, working hard to make a difference, and this is why I chose to shadow him.
