Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I never dreamed of my future. I never had a one, three, five year plan.
It is one of my biggest problems as a teacher. I know where I want to go in my first steps, but I don't know where I want to be.
My school counselor asked few days ago: "what do you want to do when you'll be older?"
I answered I don't know.
There are all kind of things I want to learn, but I'm not fixed on anything yet.
Time will tell.

takes courage to say your plans are provisional

I don't think it's really so important to have dreams about your future. The main reason it can be useful is that a lot of people don't know what direction to go. If they have a long-term dream, then they can work backwards from that to get to their 'next-steps'. You already have those. A lot of people have the idea from self-help books and articles that they are more likely to achieve something important if they imagine the outcome-- for instance, they think if they imagine getting top grades on an exam, they are more likely to achieve that. Recently, though, psychologists have started testing some of these ideas. They've discovered that actually, you are likely to do worse on an exam if you spend time imagining this positive outcome. What you should do instead, they say, is to spend time imagining studying for the exam.

In short, I think your 'first steps' are leading you in the right direction-- and you should just keep following them!

Dreams or long-term plans may sound scary because they suggest you've "figured it out" (most of us haven't) and you're committing to a specific future (not sure that's realistic for many people).

Personally, I think it's more important to understand your values, what really matters to you, and to live your life everyday according to these values.

Being flexible and adaptable, able to handle whatever the future holds is a valuable skill.

Having no dream is having no disappointment, but it is also quite sad. Maybe you don't dream for yourself, but for the others ? I have to add that a dream is not a goal, though sometimes we mix up these concepts (in your post for instance). But a dream is not something that we always want to happen for real, it is also something quite personnal. We can easily display our goals, but our dreams, it is different. When reading your article, I have the impression that you have no goal, rather than no dream. Tell me if I am wrong :)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
