So my region of the world is suffering from a pandemic, information is flying, hospitals and doctors are working overtime, and everyone is trying to keep calm.
I'm asked to get a group together online to help out as best they can.
So who do I call upon?
Game developers, web designers, musicians, voice artists, and many other people to put together a pandemic game.
Now the imagine quest said the pandemic would hit 2011, which is strange since most imagines are for 2020, and while I think my idea would work better in 2020 as a larger portion of the population will be gamers by then, I think it would still be viable if the pandemic happened next year.
An online game created on the spot that incorporates much of the information and education a population needs but in a way that is separated from the pandemic reality so that the population has an escape from the reality, which will calm fears, release tension, and prevent panic. A storyline that is engaging and has some connection to the situation, the location would be the area where the pandemic is taking place, but is not about a pandemic situation. The game would give people solvable problems, things that they can achieve, alleviating somewhat that helpless feeling many people have during a pandemic.
But as I said, most importantly, the game would have elements that could educate the population and even get them working together, have a collaborative element, allowing them to lean on each other, get discussions going, those without a support network can find one through the game, but not have to come into physical contact and perhaps risk the spread of the contagion.
So this is how I would get a non-medical element together to help out my community during a pandemic, what do you think?
