Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

The Texas Board of Education meets on a regular basis to decide on what will be taught in Texas school. They use volume purchasing instead of letting each district purchase them, there by saving a ton of money. Nearly half of the school districts in America mirror this move relying on Texas's education boards decisions end up in textbooks that are sold everywhere else.

Here's some of the Decisions that have been passed by the Board of Education for the State of Texas:

  • Thomas Jefferson's teachings will no longer be taught. But Newt Gingrich and Phyllis Schlafly apparently made it in.

  • Rape, along with sexual identity/orientation and eating-disorders are to be presented as the result of "personal choices".

  • Creationism will be taught as fact.

  • The decline of the dollar and the influence of the democrats in the abandonment of the gold standard will be taught.

  • Hispanics and their history will long be included. As well as the participation of the Tejanos at the Alamo.

Why are we allowing our textbooks to be mangled by one state? And why are we allowing their decisions by purchasing these books? And how can they legalize creationism and say that rape is a choice? To me this makes absolutely no sense. I think textbooks need to be open-source to preserve them. No one person or state should have complete control over what a generation of people are taught.

I couldn't agree more. One thing I do as a college teacher is to show them what information that came out of public high schools is wrong or misleading.

At some point do those teachers say, I am hurting these kids? If you want to learn why this is happening, read up on John Taylor Gatto's works. He has the right idea.

I have never heard of this! I let my mom read your comment, she is utterly disgusted with the things our country has done. She said "The only thing that is the same about America is the terrain". That everything that American stood for has gone down the drain.

It is amazing how the U.S. leaves out this type of information isn't it? I think we need to establish a Wiki for Indigenous knowledge and history. If i get the money i'll buy the server.

Hosting through Amazon S3 is extremely inexpensive, and you would only have to pay for what you used, which could be offset in different ways. There are many thing that our dumb-ed down country has let happen, by bringing them to light, you could give Americans who never had a chance from elementary school, to start thinking for themselves, and pulling the wool from their eyes.

"Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning?"

Because that is how they are trained, they are pushed out like little boxes made of ticky tacky...
The real horror is that its not a dysfunctional system, the goal of turning children into a human resource is very real, and successful.

@Sarah O.Connor

The military operates by desensitizing recruits to act just like that.
