Time Use Survey 2007 (Water and Use of Time in Pakistan)
I am sharing some important and interesting findings of the Time Use Survey 2007 published in one of government doc**ent (Source: Time Use Survey 2007, Government of Pakistan, Statistics Division, FBS April 2009). Household respondents were asked to say whether water and wood/dung were generally collected by male, female or bother of their households. In rural areas Relative number of household collector of drinking water and wood by gender shows, about half (43%) of the households have female water collectors, one fourth (26%) males and one-third (31% ) are both.
In rural areas of Pakistan Literacy rate is low and especially for females it is very low. The reason can be attributed to the female’s involvement of unpaid care work. The girls of 8 years and more are generally engaged in collecting water from the well by traveling 3 to 5 kilo meters by foot and taking at least one hour average as time used normally. Solution to water supply problems can help the female literacy rate and ensure the women empowerment in long run.
